Summer flowers should soon be blooming. Be sure you have the perfect place to display your darling daisies.
I can’t think of a more fun way to display summer blossoms than on the front porch in a chair, with pants and shoes. This project takes a little bit of sewing. You can choose to sew by machine or by hand, either way will work just fine.
To make Blossom Bottoms you will need:
- 1 pair of toddler sized pants
- 1 pool noodle, or old pillow stuffing
- 1 pair of socks and extra pillow stuffing
- 1 pair of toddler shoes
- 1 pot of flowers
- 1 child’s lawn chair (optional)
Start by turning the toddler pants and socks inside out. Pin the socks securely into the pants at the bottom of the leg, just as if they were on a child’s foot. If you have girl’s socks with lace trim fold the trim under so it will show when the pants are right-side-out again. Adjust until you get it correct then sew the sock to the pants, leaving the leg open so stuffing can reach the sock.
Turn the pants with attached socks right-side-out. Stuff the socks with pillow stuffing until full and tight. Measure the length of the pant leg up to crotch area and subtract one to two inches. Cut the pool noodle in two to match that measurement.
Place one piece of the noodle in each pant leg. This becomes the “leg” of your Blossom Bottom and should bend at the “hip.”
Secure the shoes onto the socks. You may be able to simply snug the shoes on and tighten by tying or you may need glue them on for durability.
A flowerpot sits in the waist of the pants, the pants sit in the seat of the chair, and bend at the thigh over the edge. Some Blossom Buddies need additional weight in the “seat-of-the-pants” to keep them from tumbling out of the chair. This usually happens when the legs and feet are heavier than the pot.
Your Buddy may like sitting on the edge of the porch, or on the seat of a tricycle. I have my Buddy sitting next to the frog pond in my front yard. She keeps an eye on the lilly pads for me. This year she gets a little brother to catch the tadpoles.
