This is the poem I wrote in 2009, titled Autumn. It was published in Issue 2 of Holler, A Journal of Poetry and Prose, by the Princeton Poetry Project, Thomas J. McKenna, Ph.D., Director.
Autumn
It is in the air.
The cool of autumn
Rides the wind
Summer fades away.
The sun grows tired
Earlier each night.
Soon the fields will be bare.
And the frost will greet the day.
It is now that my heart grows heavy
As I see the time pass
I, too, approach the late summer.
My autumn will soon be here.
My love, hold my hand.
Walk with me
Through this season.
Let us stay near.
Together we can dream
And share
The remaining days of warmth.
Together, you and I.
We can walk these paths
Arm-in-arm
Hidden in the mountains,
Amongst the moving tides.
When we reach the winter
And life for us turns cold,
Let us hold tight our memories
Bronze, silver, and gold.
I see my children
Passing through their Spring.
Soon they will be rejoicing
In their summer.
For them I pray
Contentment, only found
In the arms of their
One true lover.
