The Tomato Cage

I have tinkered around with garden options for a few years now. I tried container gardens, with mixed results. Last year I built a raised-bed, pallet, square-foot garden. This year I am trying something different with my tomato cages.

One issue with my pallet garden is the location of the boards when I need to use tomato cages or trellis. I opted to remove only a few boards from the top of the pallet, instead of both top and bottom. The vegetables I grow don’t require extremely deep soil, so I used landscape cloth on the bottom, and filled the pallet with soil. (It also made it very easy to relocate the pallets this year.)

After moving the pallets, I found the tomato cage legs can’t get down far enough because of rocks under the pallets. So I am trying a different approach. I turned the cages upside down and used my staple gun to secure the rings to the pallet. If it does not work I will have to try something else, but I think it will do fine.
