Happy May! The world is finally in full bloom, and if you’re looking to freshen up your home without wilting your bank account, you’ve picked a great month to shop. May is unique because we get the best of nature’s bounty along with some of the biggest sales of the year.

Whether you’re a busy homemaker or just someone who loves a good deal, here is how to navigate the May sales like a pro.

🥗 Green Gains at the Grocery Store

Forget the heavy winter stews—May is all about the “crunch!” We are in the heart of Asparagus and Artichoke season. These are nutrient-dense powerhouses that are finally affordable. I love to roast them with a little lemon and garlic for an easy, healthy side dish.

You’ll also see Strawberries and Pineapples everywhere. Since they are at their price floor, it’s a great time to buy in bulk, slice them up, and freeze them for summer smoothies. It’s much cheaper (and tastier) than buying pre-frozen fruit later!

🛠️ The “Spring Up”

If your garden is looking a little tired, head to the home improvement store. Memorial Day weekend is famous for awesome sales.  This is the weekend to buy your mulch and garden soil. You’ll often find deals so good that it’s worth buying enough to last the whole summer.

It’s also the unofficial start of the grilling season. If your current grill is starting to show its age, the Memorial Day sales on gas and charcoal grills are hard to beat. Just make sure to shop early in the weekend, as the most popular models tend to go fast!

🏠 Major Moves for Your Home

Finally, May is one of the absolute best months to buy major appliances. If your refrigerator is nearing the end of its life or your washing machine is acting up, wait for the holiday weekend. Retailers offer deep discounts (sometimes 40% off!) on everything from dishwashers to laundry sets.

Because these are big-ticket items, look for retailers that offer free delivery and installation as part of the holiday promotion—that alone can save you an extra $100 or more!
