This morning I am baking cookies in support of the KAIROS prison ministry weekend. This is a simple way of extending Christian love, compassion, and prayer to those who have lost their way.
There is no magic to the cookies. They are a simple act of compassion for those who need it most. We are asked to continually pray for those who will receive the cookies. We pray they will open their hearts and minds to the voice of the Lord. We pray they will seek forgiveness and not simply change their behavior, but change the destination of their eternal soul.
Some will pay their debt to society and walk free. We pray they will give their lives to the Lord and never return to the path that lead to their incarceration. Some will never walk free. That is the debt they owe for the crimes they are convicted of. However, the Lord Jesus died for them as well. They can find Him even in such a place. They can seek Him and serve Him and help others find Him.
It is said, “He who sings prays twice.” I began singing the moment I entered the kitchen. I sang until the last cookie was bagged. I pray those who receive this small token also receive the Lord Jesus Christ.
