STOP! Time to Re-Prioritize

October 10, 2013

This is not a good week. I got a certified letter from the County Planning Office.

The house I grew up in is not occupied. All the utilities are on, but we have been working on the insides for years. We keep the grass cut, get the mail, pay the utility bills. This isn’t enough for the Planning Office.

Morning glories growing on the fence is considered weed and must be removed. The snow bent awning is an eye-sore and must come down. The riding mower must be moved from the porch area. The worst part, the house is on the demolition list and I didn’t know it.

About four years ago I got a letter because there were concrete blocks in the front yard. I called, spoke with the official, and moved the blocks. He said the letter should have stated “code violation” not “demolition.” He never made the change in the “system.” He did, however, personally write on his copy the change needed made.

The official today said he did not notice that note before, and he would see about getting it corrected. I still have to fix stuff. That sounds easy, but it isn’t. I’m already over extended and that means I have to let something go.

If I let client work go, I lose income. However, the amount of stuff that needs doneĀ inside the house is overwhelming. I can’t leave the house vacant. I am going to have to moveĀ something in there. I can move my home-based business over there. Then I face almost a tripling on taxes. To move in for living purposes will require so much work.

I wont’ get it figured out today, but I can work on those weeds.
